Tornado hits photography studio

Tornado on the Christmas Day claimed yet another structural victim. The damaged Cantrell Photography, which was previously a music studio where singer Jimmy Buffett recorded a track, has been torn down.

Lisa Cantrell Phillips told that the family has plans to build the photography studio once again at the same location. At present, the studio is in the same location.

On the day of Christmas, an EF-2 tornado hit the city at around 5 p.m. and it badly damaged structures throughout the midtown region including businesses at Loop, the name generally given to the region of Airport Boulevard, Dauphin Island Parkway and Government Street.

The photography studio was badly hit by the tornado that was inside the building since 1992. The building was around a four thousand square foot structure and it was once housed Product Sound Studio where Jimmy Buffett recorded the track “Abandoned on Tuesday” in the year 1969 when he was just twenty two years old. The tornado hit the place on Jimmy’s 66th birthday.

One fan site called Product Sound Studio’s history to “Parrot head” Buffett fans as the equivalent of what Sun Recordings is to the fans of Elvis.
